Science and Engineering Expo
The Barclay Science and Engineering Expo is an annual event celebrating student involvement and family engagement in STEM. Hosted in partnership with the Barclay Family and Community Engagement team, the Expo features a K-8 student showcase, a variety of hands-on activity stations, plus a family engineering “Egg Drop” challenge! The Science and Engineering Expo is supported by the JHU Clark Scholars student organization, as well as Barclay parents, students, and staff, and the JHU volunteer network. The event is open only to the Barclay community.
Family Engineering Day
Our Family Engineering Day, held in November, invites families with elementary-age students from Barclay School to the JHU Campus for a one-day interactive engineering challenge. Past activities include designing survival gear for extreme environments, a claw to retrieve an object from a high place, and a safety helmet for activities like cycling and soccer. JHU Clark Scholars lead the activities and coach families through the engineering design process. In the works is a pilot program adding a second family engineering day in the Spring, inviting families from other school communities in the Homewood Campus neighborhood.
Our approach
Events at Barclay bring families, caregivers, siblings, teachers, and community together around joy, discovery, curiosity, and challenge.
